Keep Your Dairy Cows on Their Feet with Precise Concrete Grooving
Dairy barns are high-traffic environments where traction makes all the difference. With dairy barn grooving, Real Traction helps you prevent injuries, improve cow flow, and create a safer working environment. Our clean-cut grooves provide lasting grip, even on wet or manure-covered floors, so your cows can move confidently and comfortably every day.
Smooth or worn-out concrete can quickly become a safety risk
When cows slip, they experience leg injuries and white line lesions in ther hoof. Even well poured concrete eventually wears smooth under routine cleaning.
Our Solution
We use specialized cutting equipment with diamond-tip blades to create sharp, consistent grooves that stand up to daily use. This method produces crisp traction edges and outlasts chipping or scoring techniques. The result is a clean surface that resists wear, drains better, and improves animal stability.
OUR GROOVING PROCESS
SAFE, PRECISE, & EFFICIENT
FROM START TO FINISH.
Concrete grooving adds traction to alleyways and work areas, helping reduce slips and improve animal and worker safety. Here’s what the process looks like on your farm:
BEFORE
WE BEGIN
Your Part
• Clear the area:
In existing facilities, remove manure; in new facilities, remove construction debris.
• Move animals:
Remove cows from the alleyway scheduled for grooving.
On-Site
Our part
• Set-up & Calibration:
Our crew arrives with specialized grooving equipment and prepares the work zone.
• Dust Suppression:
We connect our machines to your on-farm water source to control dust while we work.
• Precision Grooving:
Our operators cut uniform grooves to the specified pattern and depth for reliable traction.
• Final Check & Handoff:

After Grooving
Daily Care
• Routine Cleaning:
Once complete, the floors can be cleaned using your regular daily cleaning equipment.
Grooving Specifications
We offer several groove types to match
your farm’s flooring and animal traffic:
- Mini Groove: gives traction for existing floors that are slippery on the bar of concrete between the deep grooves.
- Deep Groove (¾ inch wide / 2 ½ inch apart): balanced spacing for standard barn alleys.
- Deep Groove (½ inch wide / 3 ⅛ inch apart): balanced spacing for standard barn alleys.
- Alley Scraper Cable Groove: customized channel for cable systems.

Benefits of Dairy Barn Grooving
- Reduces fall-related injuries: hip dislocations, bruises, fractures
- Limits white line lesions by reducing torsion and slipping
- Improves overall barn hygiene and sanitation
- Improves reproductive efficiency: cows will show more heat activity if they are not at risk of falling
- Increases milk production indirectly through better mobility and feed intake
