Concrete Grooving Patterns and Specifications
Every farm surface has different needs. That’s why Real Traction offers multiple concrete grooving specifications designed for animal safety, drainage, and durability. From fine mini grooves for smooth areas to deep grooves for high-traffic zones, each pattern is tested for reliable traction and long-term performance.
Mini Groove
Purpose: Ideal for barns that have deep grooves already, and need additional traction.
Width: Narrow, shallow grooves.
Spacing: Close-set for consistent traction.
Use Case: Freestall alleyways, holding areas, transfer lane, heifer and younger animal facilities.
Deep Groove
3/4" wide with 2-1/2" bar
Purpose: heavy-duty traction for main lanes and feed alleys.
Width: 3/4″ (19mm).
Spacing: 2-1/2″ (64mm) bar of concrete between groves.
Use Case: High-traffic dairy lanes, feed alleys, outdoor paths with frequent equipment or scraper use.
Deep Groove
1/2" wide with 3-1/8" bar
Purpose: Balanced pattern combining traction and easier cleaning.
Width: 1/2″ (13mm).
Spacing: 3-1/8″ (79mm) bar of concrete between groves.
Use Case: Standard barn aisles, milking parlor exits, and loading areas.
Alley Scraper Cable Groove
Purpose: Custom groove for cable-driven scraper systems.
Width & Depth: Tailored to your scraper setup.
Use Case: Dairy and beef barns using automated manure scrapers; ensures cable movement stays clear and efficient.
Cross-Cut Groove
Purpose: Multi-directional traction in areas with sharp turns.
Pattern: Perpendicular or crisscross groove layout.
Use Case: Holding pens, turn zones, and crowd alleys where animals pivot frequently.
